Photos allegedly showing the unannounced next-generation Nintendo console, the Switch 2’s Joy-Con controllers, surfaced online, sparking speculation about their new features.
Sources claim these photos originated from a Chinese factory producing Nintendo’s next-generation gaming console.
If genuine, these photos corroborate earlier rumors suggesting the Switch 2 controllers will be larger than their predecessors and feature magnetic connections.
Observers also suggest these photos reveal another significant feature of the Switch 2 controllers. A side-view photo of the suspected Switch 2 Joy-Con appears to show an optical sensor, similar to those used in PC mice.
Many speculate that the Switch 2’s Joy-Con controllers could function in a mouse-like manner, much like the Lenovo Legion Go handheld console’s handles. Last year’s leaked Switch 2 shipping data explicitly mentioned “mouse” components, further fueling these theories.
Nintendo has not announced the successor to its Switch but confirmed plans to reveal it within this fiscal year (ending March 2025). Despite the lack of an official announcement, numerous leaks have revealed details about the new console.
Last September, the first batch of photos allegedly depicting Nintendo’s Switch successor appeared online, showcasing a design similar to the current Switch console.
More recently, photos purportedly showing the Switch 2’s internal hardware components appeared on Reddit. If accurate, these images confirm earlier rumors that the new console will continue using Nvidia hardware.
