According to a recent discovery by Universo Nintendo, a LinkedIn profile claiming to belong to a developer of Gotham Knights hints that the game may be coming to Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 console.
While Gotham Knights is already available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X, its absence on the original Nintendo Switch has been attributed to the console’s hardware limitations.
This new development suggests that the game could finally make its way to Nintendo’s next-generation platform.
Developed by Warner Bros. Games Montréal, Gotham Knights is an open-world action RPG based on the DC Comics universe. Released in October 2022, the game is set in Gotham City, where Batman has died, leaving the city’s fate in the hands of four proteges: Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin.
Despite its ambitious premise, the game received mixed reviews, with IGN giving it a 5/10 and GameSpot scoring it 4/10. On Steam, it currently holds a 68% approval rating, categorized as “Mixed.”
IGN criticized Gotham Knights as a disappointing return to the Batman universe, noting that it fell short of the standards set by games from over a decade ago.
While the co-op mode and unique dialogue for each character were praised, the game was plagued by technical issues, including inconsistent frame rates, a weak storyline, and repetitive combat. These flaws made it difficult for reviewers to recommend the game.
Game Overview:
Batman is dead. A new and expansive criminal organization has taken over Gotham City’s streets. Now, the responsibility of protecting Gotham, restoring hope, and bringing justice falls on the shoulders of the “Bat Family”: Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin.
Players must unravel the mysteries of Gotham’s darkest chapters and face off against some of the city’s most dangerous villains. Despite its potential, Gotham Knights struggled to deliver a compelling experience, leaving many fans and critics underwhelmed.
If the rumors are true, the release of Gotham Knights on Nintendo Switch 2 could give the game a second chance to connect with players. The enhanced hardware of the Switch 2 might also address some of the performance issues that plagued the original release. However, whether the game can overcome its initial reception remains to be seen.
As Nintendo prepares to unveil its next-generation console, the potential arrival of Gotham Knights could signal a stronger focus on bringing AAA titles to the platform. Fans will be watching closely to see how Warner Bros. and Nintendo collaborate to deliver this experience.
