DC Universe Online is Coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X

Last updated:

DC Universe Online, the long-running superhero MMO, is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X this holiday season, developer Dimensional Ink Games announced today.

The game will be playable on both consoles in its native form, with gameplay and quality-of-life improvements made alongside the upgrade.

“We’re excited to bring DC Universe Online to the latest generation of consoles,” said Dimensional Ink Games CEO Jack Emmert. “This is a great opportunity to improve the game for our players and introduce it to a new audience.”

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions of DC Universe Online will feature improved graphics, faster load times, and support for 4K resolution. The game will also support cross-play between all platforms, meaning players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC can play together.

In addition to the graphical and technical improvements, Dimensional Ink Games is also working on several gameplay and quality-of-life improvements for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions of DC Universe Online.

These improvements include:

  • A new combat system that will make combat more fluid and responsive.
  • A new progression system will give players more control over their character’s development.
  • A new social system that will make it easier to connect with other players.
  • A new end-game content that will challenge even the most experienced players.

Is DC Universe Online actually free?

DC Universe Online is technically free to play. Some restrictions exist on what players can do without paying for a subscription.

Free-to-play players can create a character and play through the first few episodes of the game. They can also participate in some PvP content and chat with other players. They will have to wait longer to unlock new powers and abilities and be limited in the amount of currency they can earn.

Players who subscribe to DC Universe Online get access to the game’s content, including all episodes, powers, and abilities. They also get access to several perks, such as faster leveling, increased inventory space, and the ability to create multiple characters.

A subscription to DC Universe Online costs $14.99 per month. However, several discounted subscription options are also available, such as a three-month subscription for $39.99 or a six-month subscription for $79.99.

Whether or not DC Universe Online is “free” depends on how much you want to play. The free-to-play option is acceptable if you want to try the game out or play casually. If you want to experience everything the game offers, you’ll need to subscribe.

Here is a table of the differences between the free and subscription versions of DC Universe Online:

Is DC Universe Online 2 player?

DC Universe Online is not a 2 player game. It is a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game, meaning that it is designed to be played with a large number of other players.

While you can group up with other players to complete quests and missions, you cannot play the game with just one person. Each player needs a copy of the game and their account.

If you are looking for a 2 player superhero game, I recommend checking out Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. It is a cooperative action RPG that can be played with up to 4 players.

DC Universe Online is a free-to-play game with a monthly subscription option.

The game is available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The game’s PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions will be released this holiday season.
