The recently released indie horror game, KARMA: The Dark World, has achieved significant early success, according to publisher Wired Productions, who report it as their most successful launch to date.
Following its release in late March 2025, the game is also set to receive a free “Filter Mode” update later this month.
Launch reception and player response
Developed by debut team Pollard Studio and co-published by Wired Productions and Gamera Games, KARMA: The Dark World launched on March 27, 2025.
Wired Productions highlights the launch as their most successful, citing a Metacritic score of 75+ on PC and positive player feedback. On Steam, the game currently holds a “Very Positive” rating.
The press release notes the game’s praise for its surreal storytelling and psychological tension, drawing comparisons to the works of David Lynch and Hideo Kojima.
While finding particular success in China, the game is also noted for its appeal to Western players looking for narrative-driven horror experiences set against a unique Orwellian aesthetic.
Upcoming filter mode update
To build on the game’s cinematic feel, Pollard Studio is introducing a new Filter Mode as a free update later in April 2025.
This mode will allow players to apply different visual styles inspired by film, including:
- Black and White Mode
- Warm Tone Mode
- Cool Tone Mode
Wired Productions also hinted that players can expect “more twists, surprises, and post-launch content on the horizon.”
